British Airways customers will now have more choice when visiting Moscow as the airline starts flying to Sheremetyevo airport in the city.

From 28 October, 2018, British Airways will begin operating one of its three daily services to Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) instead of Domodevo International Airport (DME), giving customers easy access to the north of the city.

SVO is located 18 miles northwest of central Moscow, while DME is 26 miles southeast from the center of the city. British Airways timetable gives flyers the option of taking an early morning or mid-morning daytime flight or an overnight flight from Terminal 5 to the Russian capital. The new SVO flight will be operated by an Airbus 321.

Joerg Tuensmeyer, Head of Sales for Europe, said: “By changing one of our three daily flights to SVO we are opening up the north of the city for our Russian customers and giving more options to our UK based travellers who need to get to that part of the city when they arrive into the capital. We know how precious time is, especially to our business customers and frequent flyers, so this change allows them to spend more time in the lounge working or relaxing.”

British Airways is investing £4.5 billion for customers over the next five years, including the installation of the best quality WiFi and power in every seat, fitting 128 longhaul aircraft with new interiors and taking delivery of 72 new aircraft. The airline is also investing £600m specifically in Club World, including outstanding catering and luxurious White Company bedding - plus, from 2019, a new seat with direct aisle access.

The airline recently launched the only direct route between Europe and Nashville, and earlier this month announced a new direct service from Heathrow to Durban, South Africa.
